Sungei Buloh

My school brought 2 classes out to Sungei Buloh for a project in English, Science and Geography. We had a good experience and a fun time there. We not only enjoyed ourselves but we also learned many useful information. We were brought to a shelter pavilion to do our work as well as to explore. We found many things in Sungei Buloh that we have not seen so far. We saw many types of birds and insects. I enjoyed taking pictures of all these creatures as they are not what we always get a chance to see. The scenery in Sungei Buloh is really suitable for the plants and animals living there. I think that the scenery is very fresh as we breath fresh air every time. The feeling that we get there is also one that we get in the morning but it lasts longer. We did not go there to have fun, alone. We went there to do some tasks as well. My group consisted of 4 people, including me. They are me, Zaheera, Sharon and Vanessa. As a group leader, I enjoyed being responsible but it was hard to take control of them at times. For English, we had to take a video clip about the place as well as to describe the things there. We took turns and described the wonderful things there. We also described the water like instead of water, we said "murky water".

As for Science, we had to independently use a datalogger and test the water. The water was quite alkaline. On our way to Sungei Buloh, we accidentally broke the jar that we were keeping to test the water. Without depression, we thought of ways to use the broken jar and take the water. We used the scotch tape and taped the broken part and use the top to take the water by tying it to a rafia string. We closed the jar by the lid and removed the scotch tape and used the broken part to test the water. For Geography, we were given a paper being asked about the environment. We basically had to describe the place there. From all those tasks, I learned about teamwork and co-operation. Usually, most of us tend to be "in our own world" when the teacher is talking something. After being a leader trying to get my group members' attention, I felt like I was in the teachers' shoe for a moment, getting to understand them better. The English task woke up the creativity inside us and everyone came up with different ideas. For Science, we were able to take turns recording the respective informations and had fun doing it, similar to Geography.

I feel good and happy knowing that me & my group members all had fun as well as we did our tasks. The tasks increased our general knowledge and the information that we learnt also can help us in the future. Although it was just an excursion, it was a memorable one. I think that this kind of excursion, where we can both learn and have fun, should be held more as it benefits us more. We went to Sungei Buloh to basically study, but together came the excitement and anxiety to learn more. We could try hands-on as we were left in the shelter pavillion to do the work ourselves. It was a fun experience doing pra
ctical ourselves as we got a sense of independence. My whole trip was interesting to me as I took photographs of many animals that I don't usually get to see. I learned to love nature even more after this trip.

first post.. =)

Hello!

My name is Farzana Yasmin. I am a helpful, jovial and fun person. I know my balance in life and don't addict myself to anything. Even if I do, I wil only do it after I finish my homeworks and revision. I do not hold a grudge on anybody and am sweet!

I am currently addicted to the Korean drama, Boys Before Flowers, but I only watch it after my priorities are done.

I love to read books that increases my general knowlegde like Reader's Digest.
I have many friends and I love nature!

My thoughts on how to be a good group member..
A good group member is one who understands the project or his/her given task well and carries it out dutifully instead of being a free-loader. He/she must also assist the leader and ensure that everyone stays alert and not divert from the assigned task. Instead of blaming others, he/she should say "us". Most of all, a good group member is one who participates actively, enjoys but also learns and teaches something to and from each other.
